close

Obviously I am not often at a loss for words, although most people close to me certainly wish I'd be.

For someone who tries so hard to avoid making her political and religious opinions publicly known, I have a knack for offending people.

If I could offend people for a living, I'd knock Bill Gates off of his richest-person-in-the-world throne in no time.

Okay, I will be the first to admit that I am stubborn and argumentative.  I'd go as far as calling myself a jerk sometimes.  (Just don't ever try to use that label on me in front of me; I will go berserk.)

So, this post spawned out of a couple of things that happened today:
1. An article that supposedly praised my alma mater, which made my college classmates happy but upset me.
2. A little discussion with Classie on the word "straightforward."

Let's tackle item number one.

Considering my alma mater is consistently in the top 10 on U.S. college rankings, I was annoyed by the injustice the news article did to my school.  But for reasons incomprehensible to me, three of my classmates were ooh-ing and aww-ing over the article on Facebook.  More than anything I was probably annoyed by their public display of short-selling our beloved school.  So, against my better judgment I updated my status on FB to reflect my exact thoughts.  There is now an awkward silence on my FB wall regarding this issue.  All pleasant communications have grinded to a halt.  Great job, Ms. Diplomatic.

Item number two further demonstrates my incorrigible stubbornness.

I am waiting for Classie to find indisputable evidence that "straightforward" can be spelled as two words, until then "straightforward" will be one word in my dictionary.  I hope Classie doesn't whip out the OED on me.

Really, I am one of those dinosaurs who struggle vehemently against etymological evolution.  Don't get me wrong, an ingenious use of a word, however ungrammatical, always impresses me.  But certain cases, such as the inclusion of "anyways" in the dictionary, simply turn on my combative mode.  The day "irregardless" is accepted in formal writing shall be the day I begin my own book-burning ritual.  (Did I just speak like a language Nazi?)

This turned out to be a long post about my personality flaw.  Don't get me started.  Wait, it's already too late.

P.s. Please don't try to get me to tell you where I went to school; unless I slip up by accident, I don't plan to disclose that information in the near future.
